A Jello-Thick Bowl of Pure Maryland Blue Crab Glory
Walking into Romano’s Bar & Grill in Glen Burnie hits you with an immediate wave of broiled crab cake aroma that makes your stomach rumble instantly. I skipped the famous cakes to focus on the white gold at the bottom of a cup, and what I found was pure magic. The soup arrived as a striking, almost pure white block that literally jiggled like gelatin in its bowl. It was thick, dense, and visually distinct from any standard cream base I’ve encountered before.
The texture was undeniably velvety, sliding smoothly over my tongue with a light, creamy flavor that acted as the perfect canvas for the star ingredient. And oh, what a star it was. This bowl was absolutely loaded with massive chunks of Jumbo Lump crab. I pulled out piece after piece of sweet, briny Maryland blue crab, savoring that classic local taste in every bite. While the heavy gelatinous consistency kept the creaminess score grounded, the sheer volume and quality of the meat made this an unforgettable experience. It is rare to find such a generous handful of lump crab in a single bowl, making this spot a serious contender for the title.
