Municipal Fish Market Wharf Seafood Adventure
The Municipal Fish Market in Washington DC is an absolute marvel of engineering and appetite. Imagine ordering your meal while looking down into barges pushed right up against the pier, with fresh seafood displayed at knee level. It is a truly weird and wonderful experience, with raw treasures on the starboard side and cooked delights on the port. The setting alone is worth the trip, offering a unique glimpse into the maritime trade that makes Maryland’s coast so legendary.
I arrived hoping for their cream of crab, but alas, it was not on the menu. Instead, I settled for their Maryland Crab from Jesse’s Cooked Seafood. It arrived with a robust tomato base and a distinct salty kick that immediately grabbed my attention. The texture was quite stringy, featuring very thin pieces of back meat rather than the chunky lumps I usually crave. While it wasn’t my personal favorite in terms of crab presence, the price point was undeniably fantastic, offering incredible value for the location.
Despite missing out on the creamy dream I came for, the adventure at the Wharf remains memorable. The unique layout and the sheer volume of seafood on display make this a must-visit spot for any food traveler. If you are in DC and craving that specific Maryland creaminess, you might need to keep searching, but the atmosphere here is simply unmatched.
