Dock of the Bay Cream of Crab Triumphs at Sparrows Point
The journey to Dock of the Bay was an adventure in itself, involving a brief but friendly encounter with a Coast Guard boarding officer who definitely had strong opinions about soup. Once we cleared security and arrived at this waterfront gem in Sparrows Point, the view alone set the stage for a memorable meal. I opted for the cup of cream of crab soup, though looking back, I might have regretted not grabbing the bowl because this stuff is dangerously good. The lighthouse standing guard in the distance provided the perfect backdrop for digging into a dish that truly lives up to its reputation.
The soup itself was a revelation. It struck a beautiful balance, leaning slightly watery rather than thick like molasses, which let the robust flavor shine through. The crab meat dropped on top was visibly fresh, handpicked, and seasoned with a lovely Old Bay or J.O. Spice hue. I spotted some shells and stringier back shell pieces, proof of real, chunky crab content. With a healthy crab-to-cream ratio, every spoonful delivered intense savory goodness. At just six dollars for this view and this quality, it is an absolute steal that rivals the very best on the registry.
